Faize and Lymle adopt...

"Faize, I want to adopt one, 'kay?" Lymle said suddenly one day, from her seat on the bridge.

Faize jumped round in his seat. "You want to what?! Don't blurt things like that out!" he blushed heavily.

"What, why?" Lymle tilted her head. "You can have it too," she insisted calmly and sweetly, "we can both adopt one each and look after them together," she offered.

Faize looked incredibly flustered now. "Lymle... you're too young to-" he swallowed hard.

Edge laughed at his Eldarian friend from the Captain's chair.
"Oh man, playing happy families on my vessel? Faize, you pervert," he grinned.

"Edge!" Faize looked up to the Earthling in disdain. "Talk to her- tell her she's not making sense!" his eyes begged from under his verdant hair.

Lymle pouted and stood from her seat. She stomped over to Faize and stood right in front of him. For once, because Faize was seated, he and Lymle were at eye level. He looked ahead to her sternly as she cupped her hands behind her and frowned at him.

"Why don't you want to adopt one?" she pouted. "They're only little, 'kay?"

"Adopting a baby is a heavy responsibility Lymle. You have to be an adult, for starters. Are you an adult?" he asked her knowingly.

Lymle paused and looked down at the metal ground beneath her feet.
"No..."

"Well then. I trust you will put these silly notions of us adopting a baby together out of your head," Faize turned back to his computer terminal, beginning to plot his next co-ordinates.

"But..." Lymle began suddenly, the Eldarian looking back over his shoulder. "Everyone else has one," her bottom lip trembled.

"What?!" Faize turned back to her. "Don't be ridiculous!"

"I am not." Lymle shook her head. "Merry has one, and Sarrie has one, and Reirei has one. I want one too, 'kay?" she demanded.

Faize looked aghast. "Edge, what is she talking about? I didn't know Reimi had a-" he looked towards his Captain.

But Edge was not in his seat anymore.
"Reimi!" came his voice, bellowing away from the Recreational Room.

Faize sighed and looked back to Lymle. "You see that, Lymle? Now you've caused a scene with your childish fantasies," he sighed.

"They are not, 'kay? Reirei does have a baby- she adopted it! There’s a picture of it on her desk thingy like yours!" Lymle pointed, tugging Faize's sleeve.

Faize groaned and stood up, obeying Lymle's whim by going over to Reimi's computer terminal. He pressed the activation button on the front to go to Reimi's personalised screen and his eyes widened.
"This is..." he began.

"See? I told you? A baby!" Lymle smiled as Faize turned round to her.

"That's not a real baby! It's a computerised baby egg! A little adoptable creature made up of pixels that grows automatically and can be displayed for entertainment on computer screens!" Faize exclaimed.

"Oh," Lymle looked at the egg. "Isn't it the same?" she asked, her tone as level as ever.

"No it certainly is not! Having a real baby is completely different to one of those!" he pointed for emphasis, his voice grainy from his frustration. "For one thing, humanoid babies do not come from eggs like that! And they grow inside a woman! And you do not hatch them by clicking on them!" he explained.

"Oh!" Lymle nodded again, watching Faize cool down before shuffling in front of him. "Faize?" she peered up at him hopefully.

"What?" Faize replied tiredly.

"I want one..." she tugged at his sleeve again, the green haired youth looking down at her. "I want one of those, 'kay?" she pointed at Reimi's screen.

Faize's face cleared. "So that's what you meant," he nodded slowly. "But where would you put it since you don't have a page?" he shook his head and watched Lymle look down in defeat. "Oh, alright. You can put it on my page," he consented, walking over to his own terminal.

Lymle followed quickly on her little legs, her feet tapping against the metal grain on the floor as she went.

"Choose one of them quickly," he told her as he opened the page with the 'adoptables' on it.

Faize watched the girl survey the little eggs on the screen until she had found the one she wanted.
It was pink, and round, with a black strip all the way round, horizontal and thin. At the front on the middle was a little white button of sorts, a circle no bigger than the strip of black. At the top of the egg were two red pointy cat-like ears. They looked much like the green devises on the sides of Lymle's head. It was propped up by a clear circular sphere at the bottom.
When prompted she named it simply "Lymle's Adopt."

"You have one too, 'kay?" Lymle coaxed him, after her's appeared on the screen (to her delight).

Faize's eyes narrowed at the screen until he found a similar design adoptable to Lymle. His was The same round shape with a black strip all the way round the middle with a white button in the centre. The lower half of the ball was white. The upper half of the ball was mostly red. However, black ribbons criss-crossed round a blue patch at the front.
Taking inspiration from Lymle, he named it simply "Faize's Adopt."

It appeared on his page just above Lymle's. Faize followed the links and fed the adoptables some food, making them up to Level 2. Lymle didn't quite understand this, but she would appreciate it when her egg hatched, he was sure.

"Right," Faize went back to the navigation status screen and put in the co-ordinates. "Happy now?" he asked her, looking back to find Lymle asleep in her chair.
He sighed and smiled at the same time.

Phssht!
That was the noise of the door opening, followed by slow dragging steps.

"Ugh," came the noise of the Captain, as he sat down ruggedly on his chair.
And across his cheek was a bright red hand-print.
